I agree with you. There is much less soul in football. Yes, rule is the rule, but these kind of offsides are ridiculous. To my mind offside was created to take the advantage from the striker and not to leave a man standing there and waiting for a pass, so the game becomes more compact and structured. Now it's only about who is closer to goalkeeper, no matter if the player in attack has any reasonable advantage in that situation. No advantage at all, he just slightly stays closer to goalkeeper. If he stayed 5 cm further from the goaly, nothing would have changed for anyone. Just there is a rule. It must be improved!

All VAR did was change from at worst 1-2 metres to now 1-2mm. One wonders that all the checking and disallowing of millimetres is WORSE than a few ODD HOWLERS that 3 refs miss but for the most part get correct enough of the time ! VAR is a perfect case of Killing The Goose That Lays The Golden Egg. Spontaneity is almost dead in football goals: Don't celebrate, Var is checking. Go back... Var spotted something... Yawn. Even with VAR there's still random interpretations of goals: Some yes and some no - because humans should be the final word and make a decision and move the game and time forwards in real-time is best for football.

Like handball Is either handball or not. In basketball when the ball touches you feet Is a foul, doesnt matter if Is volontary or not, and that doesnt create confusion.

It would be possible however to not be 10-20 cm in front (or more). The VAR will calculate as now but with a marginal of 10-20cm (or more). Offside rule is there to stop forwards to stay close to the goalkeeper all the time. It was NOT designed for this machine non-human rule. So it needs to be more "human".

VAR is only a supporting technology for the referee to make a decision. At the end of the day, the referee have a full authority to make the decision of the game.
