@imronaldo1985 that could b a reason. Serie A had the big stars, like Van Basten, Gullit, Maradona, Matheus, Baggio, Maldini etc. just to name a few & that continued through the 90s. So they had some great teams. In Latin America we didn't hear much about the English league back then, until more South American players went there.

@imronaldo1985 I think it's many factors. Great players all went there, Spain has had a peak of their own around 5-10 years ago. Now it has shifted to the UK. There's some cyclicality perhaps. Also, it's a lot about money. Italian teams back then were the big spenders. English teams could not match the salaries and fees. Italian teams built a huge castle spending uncollateralized worthless Liras, money they did not really have. English teams instead favoured organic growth. Eventually, the Italian bubble crashed. Lazio, Rome, Parma, Fiorentina, Napoli all faced bankruptcy of some sort. Either that or a haircut was given on their huge debt pile. They had to dissolve teams and fire sale players. Juventus, Inter, and Milan had issues of their own and had to cut debt and spending for many years. Meanwhile the UK quietly grew and is reaping the benefits of the way they chose to do things decades ago. (The system disclosure requirements certainly had something to do with it as well). Italian teams today are investing and Serie A is slowly coming back. The growth now is more organic and transparent. Teams are doing better financially. But to reach the top again, if ever, will take time.

Well in terms of trophies, goals,Suarez is miles ahead no doubt, he is deffinetly an incredible striker,it's my subjective opinion that Recoba is better just because i enjoyed players and the game 10,15 or 20 years ago more then i do now. Also i forgot about Francescoli, great player.

I wasn't born in the 90s but I agree when you watch vedios of this players in this Era you feel like they play for passion and love of the game nowadays they care about money more than football

Nowadays they are athletes , more efficient , consistent but they lack the silkiness and individual brilliance .

They killed the game by imposing us players like Messi or Penaldo. All business. Before football was quiet and the only judges were the people...the Rooney,Reus,Hummels,Isco,Bale,Hazard,Thiago Silva,Alisson Becker..deserved more recognition IMO
